We Went North
I was able to take some vacation time which meant that Rachel, Emery and I were able to get away for 5 days. We went north. Really far north. So far that we had to take a boat to reach our destination: Beautiful Bois Blanc Island. Situated in the Straits of Mackinaw it’s where our family has spent our summers since the 1950s.

No phone (except to take pictures), no internet, no work. That was the goal.

The ferry to the island. The only way there unless you have your own boat or plane.

The view from our front porch on day 1. Lake Huron.

The first day is spent cleaning the cottage as well as fixing anything that is broken (plumbing, electrical, structural, fallen tree’s) In this case cleaning the posts and leads on our UTV so it would start. Emery is my helper in all things.
Here are some more shots from our time on the island this past week

There is some state-owned land near our property and last year I discovered some really cool glass jars that appeared to be very old. This year I returned to the area in hopes of finding some more buried treasure.

This years treasure. There’s something about digging through the dirt in hopes of finding “treasure” that re-ignites the spirit of adventure inside of me. Here’s what I found buried this year; assorted jars from the 1940’s. (I know this because I did a little looking and the jar in the back left is a “Snider’s Chili Sauce” jar from the early 40’s.)

Ideas are the most valuable thing. Good ones make all the difference, bad ones can hold us back and maybe destroy us. If we can focus on finding the right ones, helping distill them, and transfer them as quickly as possible we can get more of them. Curation is that means to the end
